Nigerian Breed Standard

Nigerians can be any color or combination of colors, except for Agouti (a Pygmy color), which is heavily faulted.
The ears are erect and the facial profile should be straight. A convex or dished profile is a disqualification.
Nigerians may have blue eyes.

Maximum height for does at maturity: 22"
Maximum height for bucks at maturity: 23"

Note: In the ADGA registry, the heights are 22.5 " and 23.5" respectively. We at Mythos Farm would like to see the Canadian heights raised slightly to match the standard from which almost all Canadian Nigerian genetics descend.

Heights are routinely checked at:
  • Official CGS shows
  • Classification
  • DHIA milk test (verification test)
  • One Day Milking Competitions

If a Nigerian Dwarf exceeds the maximum height at any age they are:
  • heavily faulted in CGS shows, usually going last place regardless of quality compared to others in the class
  • cannot score Excellent in Classification
  • cannot be ranked in Top Ten for production
