Guarantees
Animals are sold as is, with no guarantees of future health, production, size or quality. We have gone to great lengths to base our breeding programs on excellent foundation stock, selected on the basis of conformation and production, but breeding livestock is an art as much as a science, with a bit of a gamble thrown in. Gene combinations are not as predictable as we'd like them to be. Read more about the genetic lottery here.
Once an animal leaves our property, we cannot be responsible for its health, under any circumstances. We are happy to have our veterinarian at Tri-County Veterinary Hospital perform any on-site examination or tests you wish (at your expense) before the animal is picked up.
Exception: Should a doe or buck be found to have a hidden or overlooked congenital defect (as verified by a licensed veterinarian), we will replace the animal with one that we feel is of equal quality, as soon as is feasible. Infertile young stock will likewise be replaced - does or bucks that have previously produced offspring are considered proven fertile at time of sale.

PICK-UP or DELIVERY:
Pick-up at the farm:
Weaned young stock and adult animals must be claimed within two weeks from purchase unless other arrangements have been made. Please bring your own crate, appropriate to the size of the animal. We can normally arrange to meet you here on weekends (or weekday mornings before 8:00am or weekday evenings after 8:00pm).
Please make an appointment as far in advance as possible to arrange your arrival and pickup, to ensure that we can arrange to be home!
Shipping:
We are happy to ship young pigs (under 3 months) and goat kids under four months of age from the San Jose or San Francisco airports via American Airlines, United PetSafe or Delta Cargo, as they have climate controlled facilities, important to the comfort and safety of your new goat. If you have a different preferred carrier that accepts livestock we can certainly use them.
Small kids can be shipped two to a medium-sized crate. Air cargo is usually around $325 regardless of distance within the US - please check with Delta or American Airlines Cargo for rates to your airport.
The cost of the crate will be added to your invoice, and varies from $75 - $175 depending on the size of the goats (includes $25 for gas to the airport). Please ensure you make arrangements for health certification as needed and before booking your flight!
All shipments must be arranged within two weeks of payment. If shipment must be delayed, a feed charge of $1.00 per day will apply per animal. If the shipping arrangements are not made within thirty days, and unless other arrangements have been agreed to by private treaty, payments made to date will be forfeit and the animal will be resold.
All shipment costs must be paid in advance of the travel date.
Be sure to bring photo I.D. with you when you pick up the shipment at the airport!
HEALTH CERTIFICATES:
PLEASE NOTE: If shipping outside of California, it is the responsibility of the buyer to research any necessary health certificates and tests that are required, well in advance of shipping or pick up. Call your state vet as soon as possible to ask what is required, because sometimes multiple tests with specific intervals are required! Costs are the responsibility of the buyer and must be paid in advance.
All goats will test positive for CL antibodies, because we vaccinate against the disease, which is endemic to our region. We test annually for CAE and Johnes.
Be careful when budgeting!
Please be cognizant of how costs can ramp up before buying!
$500.00 Purchase price of animal.
$125.00 Crate/Gas to Airport
$ 95.00 Health Papers (if required: this varies a LOT depending on the tests requested)
$325.00 Airfare (you can ship two similar sized kids in one kennel)
Suddenly your $500 purchase has become a much more expensive animal!
Should you have any questions or concerns, contact us via email BEFORE buying. We strive to provide you with a clearly defined, no-surprises business transaction!

Registration
- Our goats are all registered with the American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA). They are also eligible to be registered within AGS, if you should wish to do so. Read here for more information. All registered animals will be transferred into the new owner's name at our expense, within ADGA. Please ensure that you provide the exact name (and ADGA ID if applicable) at time of sale. Precision is important: for instance, "Linda Carlson" is not the same as "Linda and Eric Carlson." Exception: goats sold as pets will not (and cannot) be registered.
- Pigs will be sold with an application for registration with the Juliana Pig Association and Registry (JPAR). Registering this breed involves an initial, provisional registration, followed by permanent registration at maturity.

Breeding Reservations for goats:
- We accept reservations but reserve the right to keep breeding stock as required for our own herd.
- A deposit of $100 will secure your place in choice of kids from a given doe. If the doe does not produce a kid of the requested gender, your reservation may be transferred to a second or third doe, or deferred to the following year. NO REFUNDS will be undertaken.
- A deposit will hold your purchase for two weeks after a kid is born. Following that term, your deposit is forfeit unless final payment is arranged under mutually acceptable terms and before the kid leaves the farm. After eight weeks, we will apply $1/day for feed costs.
- While we maintain a list of planned breedings, we reserve the right to change the sire assigned to any given doe (they sometimes make that decision for us!).
- We cannot accommodate specific requests for eye or coat color. It's simply too random. If these factors are important to you, wait until kids are born to make your purchasing decision!
Breeding Reservations for pigs:
- Rarely necessary, as we usually have plenty of quality juvenile pigs available!
PAYMENT FOR PURCHASES:
Payment for any purchase must clear before the animal leaves the property.
Terms:
- Reserved goat kids can be picked up any time if you intend to bottle feed them (let me know asap so that I can train them to bottle at two weeks), or at 8 weeks and over, when they can come off milk. Arrangements for pickup must be made within two weeks of the birth announcement and the kid must be picked up as soon as feasible, and before 10 weeks of age.
- Older kids and adults may be reserved with a $100 deposit. After two weeks, if the goat is not picked up, a $1/day fee for ongoing feed costs will be applied until the animal is picked up.
- Piglets will not be released until they are at least 4 weeks of age - they are very difficult to bottle raise successfully and benefit greatly from the additional time with their mother. We are happy to hold them to 8 weeks of age as well. We do NOT housetrain or handle our piglets as pets - they are farm animals here! Pigs are all available with a $100 deposit and must be picked up within a month of the deposit, with final payment.
Accepted Forms of Payment:
- Cash (it never goes out of style!)
- Bank draft/money order (make payable to Linda Carlson)
- PayPal! We make it easy and convenient to pay via PayPal (which can process most major credit cards). We do not apply any additional charge for PayPal transactions; we appreciate the convenience and security of these payments. Our PayPal account is paypal.me/mythos
- Checks are not preferred, and must clear before the animal leaves the property, which may take up to a week after receipt (please make checks payable to Linda Carlson)
